When one page has a link to another, a backlink or inbound link will be created. Links can be viewed as a recommendation that passes both link equity and visitors to your website from another page online.
The Domain Authority (DA) score which was created by Moz will provide some insight into the relevance and overall strength of a website for a specific industry or subject. This is a logarithmic scale using points ranging from 0 to 100 that predicts how well a website is going to be doing in the search engine results. The more points a website has, the higher the DA will be.
It is important that you do not confuse DA with page authority because they are quite different. DA will tell you what the overall ranking potential for a website is while the PA or page authority will only tell you about a single page on the website. You should be checking both and you need the right tools to do this.
Checking Domain Authority
An optimisation tool which looks at the search engines for links is Open Site Explorer. This tool was created by Moz and will help you keep track of all the links coming into your website. It is one of the essential tools that you need to use for your off-site SEO strategy. Open Site Explorer can also be used to check on your DA.
In fact, this is considered the best tool for the job. When you use the tool as a guest, you will be limited to three (3) reports each day. If you want to get unlimited reports, you will need a free Moz account. Free trial sessions are available that allow 30 days of use. After this, you will need to get a Moz Pro account to continue using the tool.
Another tool that you can use to check DA is Website Authority Checker. This tool will help you with the age of the website, the URL age and all of the links. This checker makes use of the Mozscape API to generate your results.
Check Page Authority
To check DA and PA, you will be able to use Ahrefs. Ahrefs offers a fresh collection of DR’s and indexes correlated with the actual search engine rankings. The process to check page and domain authority will include looking at the number of domains and pages which have at least one (1) do not follow link to the website you want to check.
The DR values of the linking pages and domains will then be taken into account. Secret math and coding magic will then be used to calculate the raw DR scores. These calculated scores are placed on a scale of 0 to 100. If you want to get this data, you will need to buy a license from Ahrefs.
There are a number of other tools that will assist you with DA and PA but the two mentioned in this article are two of the best tools on the market to assist you with your search engine optimisation campaigns.
